MINI DYNAMO

ViaTEK Mini Dynamo, retail $11.98 (www.thingsyouneverknew.com...)

The Mini Dynamo is advertised as the "world's smallest" dynamo (hand crank-recharged) flashlight; and it really does look like that's the case. It measures just 3.25" L, 1.75" W, and 1.0" D.

It features three brilliant white LEDs, has a rechargeable battery inside, and the package claims that one minute of cranking provides a full hour of light! You never have to plug it in or find a battery charger - you just turn the crank on it to recharge.

 SIZE

This flashlight came to me ready to use. When you receive yours, remove it from the package the best way you see fit (I used a pair of household scissors to cut down one side of the package) , unfold the crank, and wind it at two revolutions per second (120RPM) for one minute. This is to ensure the internal battery is fully charged and ready to go.

Once this is done, you only need to crank it for one minute to obtain ~60 minutes of light.

Slide the slide switch on the right-hand side of the unit forward (toward the LEDs) to turn the LEDs on.

Slide it back toward the tail of the light to turn them off.

To charge the internal battery, unfold the crank, and wind it at two revolutions per second (120RPM) for one minute.
Yes, that's all there is to it.

Because there are a number of moving mechanical parts inside this flashlight, "The Smack Test" really isn't that appropriate here.

Same with "The Toilet Test". Because of the hand crank, I would not have performed "The Toilet Test" anyway.

So this section of the page will seem ***SIGNIFICANTLY***more bare than this section of the page on a page about a battery-operated (using disposable batteries or batteries that are externally recharged) flashlight.

Beam photograph on the test target at 12".
Measures 41,900mcd on a Meterman LM631 light meter.
This is actually a very good value for a dynamo (crank) flashlight!!!
