The Mini-LED Torchlight (2) is a small metal flashlight that you hang on your keychain.

It comes in a metal body, has a 5mm white LED in the end, and has four LR41 button cells in its body to feed that LED with.

This product was found at a dollar store in the eastern United States (near Philadelphia PA to be exact) in late-December 2005.

To use this flashlight, press and hold the button on the barrel for as long as you need light, release the button to turn it back off.

There is no continuous or hands-free mode available; please do not look for or expect to find one.



Unscrew the tailcap, gently place it on the ground, and kick it in the garden so the praying mantids will think it's something to eat and strike at it...O WAIT!!! YOU'LL NEED THAT!!! So just set it aside instead.

Tip the four used LR41 cells out of the barrel and into your hand, and dispose of or recycle them. Do not stomp on them or flush them down the toilet.

Insert four new LR41 button cells into the barrel, button-end (-) negative going in first.

Screw the tailcap of the flashlight back on.
Aren't you glad you didn't kick that tailcap into the garden with all those hungry, hungry praying mantids now?



The flashlight appears to be reasonably sturdy. Ordinary flashlight accidents should not be enough to do it in. I administered the smack test on it (ten whacks against the corner of a concrete stair on the side of the product), and found the expected damage. There is some VERY MINOR gouging on the side of the product where it was struck. No optical or electrical malfunctions were detected.

"The Toilet Test" would be inappropriate, because I know with 100% certainty that it would leak. I removed the tailcap and then administered that terrible suction test on the barrel, and it leaked rather handily. As far as I was able to determine, the majority of the leak occurred around the switch area with some additional air leakage occurring around the LED.

There are no environmental seals (O-rings) visible on it, so water, milk, diet Pepsi, coffee, urine, root beer, or other liquids could get inside through the switch and possibly around the LED too. So please try not to drop it in creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes, oceansides, docksides, puddles of wolf pee, glasses of milk, slush piles, mud puddles, tubs, root beer floats, toilet bowls, cisterns, sinks, cups of coffee, fishtanks, dog water dishes, old yucky wet mops, or other places where water or water-like liquids might be found. A little rain or snow probably wouldn't hurt it though, so you need not be too concerned about using it in moderately bad weather.

If it fell in water and you suspect it got flooded, disassemble it as you would for a battery change, dump out the water if necessary, and set the parts in a warm dry place for a day or so just to be sure it's completely dry inside before you reassemble and use it again.

If it fell into seawater, got thrown into a glass of milk, or if somebody or something peed on it, douche all the parts out with fresh water before setting them out to dry. You don't want your flashlight to smell like seaweed, sour milk, or piss when you go to use it next. Besides, salt (from seawater or pee-pee) or sugar (from root beer) can't be very good for the insides.

The light output is a pure, slightly cool white.

This high light output will be short-lived on those tiny LR41 button cells.
That dreadful "rotten porpoise urine green" tint does not actually exist in real life.
