The Coleman 1,000,000 candlepower spotlight is a bright portable spotlight that sports a 55 watt halogen incandescent light bulb at the focus of a mirror-smooth reflector, and has a 6 volt 4.8 amp-hour sealed lead-acid rechargeable battery built in to power that bulb.

It comes in a yellow plastic body with a black rubber ring around the front of the bezel; the lamp and reflector are protected by a glass window (or "lens", even though it does not modify the beam in any fashion).

According to the Colemanpower website, this is model # PML8000Y.

 SIZE

As with any rechargeable product, it is recommended that you charge it first (see below).

To run the spotlight, press and hold in the circular button on the side of the handle, and then press and release the trigger switch. To turn it off, just do the same thing again.

To charge the spotlight when necessary, there are two ways:

1: you can unwind the cord for the AC charger, plug it into the receptacle on the back of the spotlight's handle, plug the large end into any 110 to 130 volts AC 2- or 3-prong household AC receptacle. Leave it charging for approximately 15 hours, then (and this part is important) unplug both the plug from the spotlight and the AC charger.
While charging, a red LED on the back of the spotlight's handle right near the plug comes on.

2: Unfurl the cord from the automobile charger, plug the small end of the cord into the receptacle into the receptacle on the back of the spotlight's handle, and plug the larger end in the cigerette lighter receptacle in your automobile. Time required to fully charge in this mode is 20 hours.

You should charge this product every three or four months even if you don't use it all during that time.
And you should always charge it if you've used it for more than a few minutes - lead-acid batteries really don't like to be left in a state of partial discharge.

Advertised runtime is 30 minutes per charge.

Because this is a spotlight and not a flashlight meant to be carried around all the time, thrashed, and abused, the punishments I bestow upon flashlights will not be bestowed upon the Coleman 1,000,000CP spotlight. So this section of the web page will be significantly more bare than this section of the web page on a page about a flashlight.

The spotlight is equipped with a threaded female receptacle in the bottom of the handle for a tripod.
The inside diameter of this receptacle is approximately 8mm.

Beam photo at ~12".
Measures 5,470cd on a Meterman LM631 light meter.

This value is VERY low because the beam is very wide near the face of the spotlight.

TEST NOTES:
Product was purchased from a catalogue on the evening of 10-19-05, and was received late on the morning of 11-12-05.

Spotlight was made in China. A product's country of origin really does matter to some people, which is why I published it on this web page.

The AC charger has an output of 16.40 volts DC at 300mA.
This voltage was measured open-circuit; this higher voltage is perfectly normal with an unregulated "wall wart" charger with no load on its output.
Center of plug is (+) positive, outer can is (-) negative.
