The Garrity ibeam Floating Lantern is a large, handheld flashlight in a lantern-style case.

It comes in a translucent green plastic body (as I understand, it is also available in other colors - but this sample is green), and uses a square 6-volt lantern battery (the kind with the spring terminals on top) to power an incandescent bulb at the bottom of a smooth reflector.

 SIZE

Feed the ibeam its included battery first (see directly below), and then you can paint the town red...or in this case, an incandescent shade of yellowish-white.

Press the rubberised button on the top of the ibeam's body (at the front of the handle) firmly and then release it to turn the lantern on. Press and release the button again to turn the lantern off. This is continuous or hands-free mode.

There is no momentary or signalling mode available when the lantern is off, but you can blink the lantern while it is on by pressing the button less firmly and then holding it in for as long as you need the lantern off; relieving pressure on the button turns it back on.

The ibeam is supposed to float, however I may not have a water-testing facility deep enough to test this. I'd imagine it would float face-up, so the beam is aimed skyward.

Unscrew and remove the bezel (head), dash it to the floor, and stomp on it with old or used bowling shoes...O WAIT!!! YOU'LL NEED THAT!!! So just set it aside instead.

Tip the used battery out of the lantern's body, and dispose of or recycle it as you see fit.

Look at the new battery. If there are plastic insulaters over the springs, remove them and get rid of them.

Place the new battery in the ibeam's body, so the springs face outward.

Look at the underside of the bezel for two gold colored terminals, and orient the bezel so these terminals on the bezel are aligned with the switch on the ibeam's body. Lower the bezel over the body, and screw it back on.
Aren't you glad you didn't stomp on that bezel now?

Due to the way the lantern is constructed, I am not able to obtain a current usage reading.

Because the ibeam uses an incandescent bulb, better tell you how to change it when it blows.
Unscrew and remove the bezel, and turn it over. Pull that black plate straight off, tilting it very slightly if necessary. Pull the burned-out lamp straight out of the receptacle, and dispose of it as you see fit. Light bulbs are not recyclable; that's why I did not offer that option here.

Insert a new KPR-113 or PR-113 bulb straight into the receptacle in the center of that black thing you just took off.

Put that black plate back on the reflector, snapping it in place.

Like you would for a battery change, look at the underside of the bezel for two gold colored terminals, and orient the bezel so these terminals on the bezel are aligned with the switch on the ibeam's body. Lower the bezel over the body, and screw it back on.

On that black plate, there is a cylindrical socket for a spare bulb if you wish to be equipped with one.

This lantern appears at least reasonably durable, but due to its all-plastic construction, I will not do the smack test on it.

The lens is plastic. I didn't even need to cut through it with a knife to determine that, so you won't get to laugh at the poor lantern's misery as I chop it up in the name of science.
Ain't happening today, folks.

The ibeam is waterproof and probably submersible. It is advertised to float in water. There is no O-ring between the bezel and body, but since the two components are plastic and appear to mate tightly, I don't believe it would leak. So you need not be afraid to use it in foul weather; and water-landings should not kill it either.
