The Life & Times of a Commodore 64 Computer

SOMEONE BUSTED THE COFFEEPOT: Part of the scroll text I had in many of my demos

Back in the early-1980s, I had this studly little vacume...er...this studly little computer. I learned programming in BASIC; then learned assembly language some years later.
I ran a BBS (Bulletin Board System) too, from 07-21-89 to 07-21-99; the first four or so years on a C=64 computer.
For BBS software, I ran a version of Ivory Joe 6485 that I heavily modified myself (it was in compiled BASIC, but that didn't stop me!); naming it TDMBBS v7.00.
I modified it to be more colorful, to add more subboards (like fora on the web), expanded the "voting booth", and some other improvements/expansions I have since forgotten.

I moved it to a pee-cee in 1994 or so; here is one of the login screens from that time:

When I first started the BBS, I called it "Phone Sys: The Douched Moose", then renamed it "The Pink Triangle BBS", and finally "The Toylet Bowl BBS ".

Here's the screen you got when you started the Commodore 64 up.

I used to run the Commodore 64 demo group TDM (The Douched Moose) - from 1989 to early-1993; when I added members Icebreaker and Whatever in mid-1993, I changed the group's name to TDC (The Douche Crew).

All of these demos were coded entirely in 6510 assembly language, with only a single-line startup in BASIC like:
1993 SYS 2079 TELEPHONY/TDC '93

Here are some screen dumps (yes, they're really called that) of some of my demos:

From my megademo "Mag Factor Three", released in late-1992.

From my demo "Warp Damage", released in early-1993

From my megademo "Aids Demo", released in mid- to late-1993.

YourTube video showing the demo "MAG FACTOR THREE/TDM" in operation.

This video is approximately 1.202 gigabytes (1,297,873,248 bytes) in length; dial-up users please be aware.
It will take no less than six thousand (!!!) minutes to load at 48.0Kbps.

YourTube video showing the demo "WARP DAMAGE/TDM" in operation.

This video is approximately 51.7 megabytes (51,932,472 bytes) in length; dial-up users please be aware.
It will take no less than two hundred fifty eight (!) minutes to load at 48.0Kbps.

Icebreaker from Brain Damage Studios joined my demo group shortly before this demo was released; that's why his name is in the scrollies of both this demo and the one directly below.

YourTube video showing the demo "AIDS DEMO/TDC" in operation.

This video is approximately 1.7455 gigabytes (1,870,749,872 bytes) in length; dial-up users please be aware.
It will take no less than nine thousand three hundred fifty (!!!!!) minutes to load at 48.0Kbps.
This video is definitely ***NOT*** for dial-up users!!! :-(

This demo was made to give people a "quickie" course on AIDS, using a format that most everybody understands: pictures & music.

The "shifting" of the secondary background on page 2 is because I had to re-record page 2 after rebooting the computer; at that time I reintegrated all of the frames.

And the ends of the scroll texts on pages 2 and 5 got "ate" because my camera only records video for three minutes a pop, regardless of how much memory remains in its flash memory card.

An updated version of the YourTube video showing this demo in operation.

This video is approximately 106.5 megabytes (107,187,561 bytes) in length; dial-up users please be aware.
It will take no less than five hundred thirty two minutes to load at 48.0Kbps.

Demos I released as TDM included:
1990: COM BOY/TDM (BASIC with ML subroutines)
1991: HMBC/TDM*
1992: PUSSYWHIPPED/TDM
1992: ANTHRAX/TDM (In reference to the heavy metal band, not the disease)
1992: URINALWRITER/TDM (interactive demo) (first demo to have *NOT* used the WOD Demomaker)
1992: WAVERLOGO/TDM
1992: TRANSITION/TDM (this one has a 96-line $D016 wave in it)
1992: THUNDERFLUSH/TDM (megademo) (has digitised sound of a suicide-resistant prison comby flushing)
1992: MAG FACTOR THREE/TDM (megademo) (this one has rasterbars at normal size & magnified 3x normal size)
1993: WARP DAMAGE/TDM (My first release using FLI graphics)

* HMBC is an abbreviation for "Heavy Metal Board Crasher". This was in reference to the music I listened to (like Anthrax, Raven, Metallica, Exciter, etc.) and dial-up bulletin board systems (BBSs, or "boards").

Demos I released as TDC included:
1993: BORN AGAIN/TDC (announced my demo group's name change after adding two members)
1993: AIDS DEMO/TDC (megademo) (teaches people about AIDS with FLI pictures)

Linked demos are downloadable, and can be run on WinVice v1.19; set the video mode to "NTSC", set disk drive (#8) to "true drive emulation" and set drive type to "1541 II" to allow the FLI graphics to display properly and allow the VMax fastload routine I used in my megademos to function properly.

Not all demos I wrote are shown here; this is by memory so I've definitely left something out.

Several toliet words were censored from the above screen dumps; thus making them "child-friendly".

The term "megademo" is used to describe any demo that has more than one file, not including the loader like "PUSSYWHIPPED/TDM" has.

So why is Paul Casey's name shown on some of these?
It's because I used some of these screen dumps on the website I made in his memory.
I had his name in the "GREETINGS TO..." section of many of my demo scroll texts.

Download WinVice v1.19 (4,399,196 bytes) right here.

Go to No Name C64 for more information about the C=64 demo scene.

WMP movie (.avi extension) with sound.
This clip is approximately 0.4 megabytes (564,052 bytes) in length; dial-up users please be aware.
It will take no less than several minutes to load at 48.0Kbps.
This clip was specifically made to let you hear the sound.
It has a recording of a Commodore 64 speech synthesizer saying the phrase:
"He shoots up drugs with dirty needles."

Wave sound (.wav extension).
This clip is approximately 0.2 megabytes (229,401 bytes) in length; dial-up users please be aware.
This clip was specifically made to let you hear the sound.
It has a recording of a Commodore 64 speech synthesizer saying the phrase:
"He drinks Massengill brand post-menstrual disposable douches."
and a "My Lil' Reminder" playing it back.

I cannot provide any of these clips in other formats, so please do not ask.

Last updated: 03-12-10. Added another video on YourTube of one of my demos running.
