FLASHING ATTITUDE KEYCHAIN

Flashing Attitude Keychain, retail $3.99
Manufactured by (unknown) for Novelty Inc. (www.noveltyinc.com)

The Flashing Attitude Keychain is a novelty product that is designed to be affixed to your keychain, and produces a mini "light show" from its eight SMD LEDs, all found on the face of the product.

The LEDs can be activated momentarily with a N.O. (normally open) pushbutton, or it can display the entire 15 second show if the slide switch approximately 3/4th of an inch below the button is turned on.

Product was purchased at a SpeedWay gas station in the eastern US in mid-July 2006.

 SIZE

The keycain comes with batteries included & installed, so it is ready to use right away.

Press & hold down the button on the left side of the product (at the 9:00 position as the product is facing you) to turn the LEDs on for as long as you want them on (up to 15 seconds); release the button to turn them off.

Slide the switch on the left side of the product (at the 8:00 position as the product is facing you) to turn the LEDs on in hands-free mode. It runs for 15 seconds (I used a clock with a second hand on it to test this), and then turns itself off. To run the "light show" again, turn the switch off and then back on. The momentary button will *NOT* work if you forgot to turn the slide switch off; so please be sure to check this before getting all pissed off at the thing and slamming it into a garbage can.

To change the batteries when necessary, turn the unit upside-down, and unscrew & remove the two screws with a #0 phillips screwdriver (the #0 with the 2mm diameter shaft from my set worked well here). Remove the circular back piece, throw it in the garbage can, and take the bag to the outside garbage so the garbage man will haul it away next week...O WAIT!!! YOU'LL NEED THAT!!! So just set it aside instead.

Remove the two used CR2032 cells from the battery chamber, and dispose of or recycle them as you see fit.
Or stomp on them, if you like to imitate Beavis & Butt-Head.
Yeah yeah yeah stomp on them!!!!!! I hate those things!!!!!!!

Place two new CR2032 cells in the chamber, orienting them both so their flat-ends (+) positives face outward.

If the spring with a wire on it fell out, be sure to gently place it back on its post; wire side at the bottom.

Pick up that back piece, and look at it. On its inside surface, you'll see a springy metal contact. Be sure that when you lay this piece back over the opening, that this contact goes over the topmost cell.

Finally, screw in the two screws you removed earlier.
Aren't you glad you didn't throw away that back piece now?

Unable to measure current usage due to how the product was constructed and how it functions.

This novelty keychain is meant to be used as a novelty keychain, not as a flashlight meant to be carried around, thrashed, trashed, and abused, so I won't try to drown it in the toilet tank, bash it against a steel rod or against the concrete floor of a patio, violently dash it into a wall-mounted porcelain urinator to see if it smashes open (the keycain, not the urinator), let my housemate's kitty cats go to the bathroom on it, run over it with a 400lb Celebrity motorised wheelchair, or perform other indecencies on it that a regular flashlight might have to go through. So this section of the web page will be significantly more bare than this section of the web page on a page about a flashlight.

The LEDs in this product are reasonably bright, and should be highly visible to anybody you show the product to, even on a sunny day (yes, I just took it out in the sun at 12:37pm PDT 07-21-06 in Sacramento CA. USA to test this).

Photograph of the product, turned on of course.

Quicktime movie (.mov extension) showing keychain's LEDs in action.
It is approximately 4.5 megabytes (4,781,828 bytes); dial-up users please be aware.
It will take no less than twenty minutes to load at 48.0Kbps.
I cannot provide it in other formats, so please do not ask.

TEST NOTES:
Test unit of this and several other products were sent by a website fan and received on 07-20-06.

Product was made in China. A product's country of origin really does matter to some people, which is why I published it on this web page.
