VERY IMPORTANT: Since this is not a light-emitting product, my standard review format will not be used on this web page.

The American Opto Plus LED Tester (hereinafter just called an LED tester or a tester) is exactly that: an LED tester.

It can be used to test LEDs that require 2mA, 5mA, 10mA, 20mA, and 30mA. This would make it useful for testing 3mm (T1) and 5mm (T1 3/4) LEDs, plus those pesky 3 leaded bi/tri-color LEDs. It also has receptacles for 4-lead high-flux ("spider") LEDs, with current ratings of 20mA, 50mA, 70mA, and 150mA.

For power, a 9 volt transistor radio battery inside the unit does the job.

I'll meter the various currents when my mini-hook test clip adapters turn up.

To use the tester, just insert the LED into the sockets with the anode (+) positive lead being toward the top, in the slots where the current in mA is where you want it (this will usually be 20mA for 3mm, 5mm, 8mm, 10mm, bicolor, and tricolor LEDs), and press & hold down the red button near the bottom of the unit. A red light positioned directly above the pushbutton should now come on, and so should the LED you're testing if you got its polarity right and the LED being tested is any good.

The more widely-spaced sockets below the upper rows are for testing high-flux ("spider") LEDs in flat 4-lead packages. These LEDs usually require more current than standard round through-hole LEDs do, which is why there are no sockets for 10mA, 5mA, and 2mA on this row of sockets.
