ELIX HANDHELD DMM

Elix # LX-830B Handheld DMM, retail $(Not known) (www.elimex.com...)

This product does not emit light of its own (much like this spectrometer and this spectrometer too), so the standard review format will not be used and the product will be assigned a rating at once.

The Elix # LX-830B Handheld DMM is...what else...a handheld DMM (Digital MultiMeter). Its purpose is to allow you to measure common electrical parameters such as volts, amperes, and resistance (in ohms).

It provides its readings on a generous, easy-to-read LCD display.

This DMM has a somewhat "chintzy" feel to it; when holding & using it, it feels like it must be babied or handled like an egg to prevent breakage.

To install a new battery, remove the two screws on the back of the unit with a smallish-medium phillips screwdriver. Set them aside.

Lift the back of the unit off, carry it to the bathroom, throw it into the lavatory (sink), and grind it down the drain with a toliet snake (plumber's auger)...O WAIT!!! YOU'LL NEED THAT!!! So just set it aside instead.

Carefully lift the used 9 volt battery out of the battery chamber by lifting it from its bottom-end. When it's free, carry it to the dustbin (garbage can) or to the battery reclamation box if your community has a battery reclamation program in place, and drop it in.

Place a new 9 volt tranansistor radio battery into the compartment, orienting it so that its negative (-) wider terminal fits around the spring closest to the circuit board.

Place the back of the meter on, and insert & gently tighten those two screws.
Aren't you glad that you didn't crunch the back of your meter up with the toliet snake now?

To use the meter, plug the black test lead into the lower right receptacle on the meter's body labelled "COM", and plug the red test lead into the red receptacle directly above it labelled "v Ω mA" (except when measuring current on the "10A" scale).

Turn the large dial on the meter to the setting you want:
DCV (DC volts), ACV (AC volts), resistance (in Ω {ohms}), etc. and measure. This dial also functions as the power switch; turn it to the topmost position (labelled "OFF") when you are finished using this meter.

There is a transistor tester on this meter; it is designed to be used with both NPN and PNP transistors, but I honestly do not know how to use it.
