5mm White LED, $0.21, www.hebeiltd.com.cn..., L5T47UWC-AHV
(No minimum order required)
(Received 08-25-04, tested 08-26-04)

This is a 5mm LED in a water-clear epoxy case.
The light it outputs is a very slightly cool white, coming in at approximately 6,000°K.

The beam that comes out of this LED consists of a smooth hotspot with a soft fall-off at its perimeter, surrounded by a dim corona. This is fairly typical of phosphor-type 5mm LEDs in clear packages.

I do not have an instrument for measuring viewing angles, but in my estimation, the main beam is approximately 20° wide.

Intensity is 5,670mcd at a forward current (If) of 26mA.
Forward voltage (Vf) is 3.31 volts across this LED.

Oval 5mm Green LED, $0.33, www.hebeiltd.com.cn..., L763LPG41C-AHV
(No minimum order required)
(Received 08-25-04, tested 08-27-04)

This is an oval or "cat's eye" 5mm LED in a water-clear epoxy case.
The light it outputs is a very slightly whitish green, with a dominant wavelength (where you would point to on a color chart) of approximately 523-527nm.

The beam that comes out of this LED consists of a wide, slightly annular oval-shaped hotspot, surrounded by a dim corona. This is a beam configuation I have not encountered before, so I have no basis with which to perform a comparative analysis.

I do not have an instrument for measuring viewing angles, but in my estimation, the beam is approximately 50° wide by approximately 25° to 30° tall.

Intensity is 9,280mcd at a forward current (If) of 26mA.
Forward voltage (Vf) is 3.44 volts across this LED.

Flat-top (lensless) 5mm White LED, $0.21, www.hebeiltd.com.cn..., L5N47UWC-AHV
(No minimum order required)
(Received 08-25-04, tested 08-27-04)

This is a flat-top (lensless) 5mm LED in a water-clear epoxy case.

Here's a photograph of the LED itself, showing the dome end is truncated and flat.

The light it outputs is a pure, slightly cool white, with an estimated color temperature of 6,800°K.

The beam that comes out of this LED is a smooth, broad flood.

I do not have an instrument for measuring viewing angles, but in my estimation, the beam is approximately 135°.

Intensity is 720mcd at a forward current (If) of 26mA.
Remember, wider viewing angles always equal lower mcd
values, and this lamp has a very, VERY wide viewing angle.
Photograph makes beam appear brighter than it actually is.
Forward voltage (Vf) is 3.85 volts across this LED.

5mm Amber LED, $0.07, www.hebeiltd.com.cn..., L5T47VY3C-AH
(No minimum order required)
(Received 08-25-04, tested 08-27-04)

This is a 5mm LED in a water-clear epoxy case.
The light it outputs is an amber yellow color, with a dominant wavelength (where you would point on a color chart) of 584nm to 588nm.

The beam that comes out of this LED consists of a central hotspot, surrounded by a slightly ringy penumbra, surrounded by a dim corona. This is fairly typical of non-phosphor-type 5mm LEDs in clear packages.

I do not have an instrument for measuring viewing angles, but in my estimation, the main beam is approximately 12° to 15° wide.

Light is considerably less reddish than this photograph makes it appear.
Intensity is 6,091mcd at a forward current (If) of 26mA.
Forward voltage (Vf) is 2.12 volts across this LED.

Lensless 5mm Red LED, $0.05, www.hebeiltd.com.cn..., L5N47HURC-A
(No minimum order required)
(Received 08-25-04, tested 08-27-04)

This is a flat top (lensless) 5mm LED in a water-clear epoxy case.

Here's a photograph of the LED itself, showing the dome end is truncated and flat.

The light it outputs is a vivid red, with a dominant wavelength (where you would point on a color chart) of 630nm to 635nm.

The beam that comes out of this LED is a wide, even flood. I have not seen a lensless LED like this before, so I have nothing to compare it with.

I do not have an instrument for measuring viewing angles, but in my estimation, the main beam is approximately 140° wide.

LED has a very wide viewing angle, and did not photograph well for that reason.
This photograph makes the beam appear *MUCH* brighter than it actually is.

Intensity is 370mcd at a forward current (If) of 26mA.
Remember, wider viewing angles always equal lower mcd values; and this LED has a VERY wide viewing angle.
Forward voltage (Vf) is 2.06 volts across this LED.

(No minimum order required)
(Received 08-25-04, tested 08-28-04)

This is a 5mm LED in a water-clear epoxy case.
The light it outputs is a very slightly whitish green, with a dominant wavelength (where you would point to on a color chart) of approximately 523-527nm.

The beam that comes out of this LED consists of a slightly ringy central hotspot, surrounded by a slightly dimmer penumbra with a sharp perimeter, surrounded by a very dim corona.

I do not have an instrument for measuring viewing angles, but in my estimation, the beam is approximately 30°.

Intensity is 8,650mcd at a forward current (If) of 26mA.
Forward voltage (Vf) is 4.01 volts across this LED.

5mm Red LED, $0.05, www.hebeiltd.com.cn..., L5B47HURC-D1-A
(No minimum order required)
(Received 08-25-04, tested 08-28-04)

This is a 5mm LED in a water-clear epoxy case.
The light it outputs is a vivid, very slightly orangish red, with a dominant wavelength (where you would point to on a color chart) of approximately 630-635nm.

The beam that comes out of this LED consists of a squarish central hotspot, surrounded by a dimmer penumbra, surrounded by a brighter ring, surrounded by a very dim corona.

I do not have an instrument for measuring viewing angles, but in my estimation, the beam is approximately 35° to 40°.

Intensity is 2,250mcd at a forward current (If) of 26mA.
Forward voltage (Vf) is 2.19 volts across this LED.

All 3mm, 5mm, 8mm, and 10mm Hebei I.T. Shanghai Co. Ltd. LEDs were powered with a Hosfelt Electronics LED tester, outputting a known current of 26mA from the receptacles the LEDs were tested in.
High-flux ("spider") LEDs were powered with a Mid-Eastern variable voltage, current-clamping power supply, with the current set to the individual LED under test.
