LED-eshop.de B-430-515 Blue LED
Received 11-13-08, tested 11-19-08

This is a 5mm round through-hole LED that emits a slightly whitish-blue light. Peak wavelength appears to be 426.7nm - *VERY CLOSE* to where it ought to be.

This appears to be a "GaN-on-SiC" lamp, as there is a single wirebond attached at the center of the die (the LED's light-emitting region), versus the "GaN-on-Al2O3" type where there are two wirebonds attached on the top of the die at opposite edges or corners. The spectrum also shows the characteristic broad bandwidth that this blue LED type is known for having (spectral line halfwidth is at least 70nm).

LED-eshop.de V-400-520 Violet LED
Received 11-13-08, tested 11-19-08

This is a 5mm round through-hole LED that emits a violet light. Peak wavelength appears to be *EXACTLY* 400nm - ***RIGHT *** where it ought to be!!! (please see spectrographic analysis and the caption below it)

Beam photograph on the test target at 12".
That bluish color you see is primarily the fault of the camera; you'd see a dim royal purple to the eye. Most digital cameras have a tough time at these wavelengths.

And yes, I know that the colors purple and violet are two different critters, but the phrase "royal violet" would not make very much sense; however, most everybody knows what "royal purple" looks like.

Wavelength is too short for me to measure intensity or power output with the instruments at my disposal.

Vf (forward voltage) is 3.141 volts at 19.28mA.
Viewing angle is 20°.

Spectrographic plot
Spectrographic analysis of this LED.
When I retook the spectrum to determine the exact peak wavelength, it peaked at *EXACTLY* 400nm.
